Stacking host resistance genes to control Globodera pallida populations with different virulence

چکیده

Abstract Potato Cyst Nematodes (PCN) are a globally important and economically extremely damaging potato pest. Chemical control has limited impact cannot clear field of PCN, but genetic resistance in potatoes is an effective part natural management PCN. There two closely related species PCN; Globodera rostochiensis against which the H1 gene from S. tuberosum ssp. andigena (CPC 1673) proven Europe for several decades, G. pallida varieties with also commercially available. However, resistant genotypes mainly to processing most grown still susceptible species. The number suitable led its spread throughout UK now infestations Scottish seed land threatening future production. Novel sometimes combine PCN resistances more than one parental source. Multiplication panel populations differ virulence host were compared on recently developed breeding lines single or stacked genes. multiple genes show reduced multiplication pathotypes that able overcome gene.

A Comparison of Three Molecular Markers for the Identification of Populations of Globodera pallida.

Potato cyst nematodes cost the potato industry substantial financial losses annually. Through the use of molecular markers, the distribution and infestation routes of these nematodes can be better elucidated, permitting the development of more effective preventative methods. Here we assess the ability of three molecular markers to resolve multiple representatives of five Globodera pallida popul...

Tobacco Resistance to Globodera tabacum.

Two flue-cured tobacco cultivars, VA-81 and PD-4, resistant to Globodera tabacum solanacearum were tested for resistance to G. tabacum in field and greenhouse experiments. A G. tabacum-susceptible broadleaf cultivar CT86-4 was used for comparison. In a greenhouse screening procedure, VA-81 and PD-4 had, respectively, 1 of 24 and 0 of 24 plants with any cysts visible on the root systems. All 24 ...

Activation of hatching in diapaused and quiescent Globodera pallida.

The potato cyst nematodes (PCN) Globodera pallida and G. rostochiensis are major pests of potatoes. The G. pallida (and G. rostochiensis) life cycle includes both diapause and quiescent stages. Nematodes in dormancy (diapause or quiescent) are adapted for long-term survival and are more resistant to nematicides. This study analysed the mechanisms underlying diapause and quiescence. The effects ...

Effects of Host Resistance on the Fecundity of Globodera rostochiensis.

The fecundity of Globodera rostochiensis (RA) females that developed on resistant Rosa and susceptible Katahdin potato cultivars were compared. Cysts collected from each cultivar were bulked, separated into four sizes (> 500 mum, 355-500 mum, 250-355 mum, and < 250 mum), and crushed to determine fecundity as measured by viable egg content (VEC). Fewer and generally smaller cysts developed on Ro...
